Timothy S. Emry is the founder of The Emry Law Firm, PLLC. He has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 2003. In his years of practice, he has concentrated almost exclusively on Criminal Defense at the State level. Prior to starting his own practice in June 2012, Tim worked as a Senior Associate Attorney at Powers McCartan (Formerly known as Bush & Powers) and as an Assistant Public Defender in Mecklenburg County. During his two and a half years at the Public Defender’s Office, Tim handled cases involving Domestic Violence as well as Felony Drug Offenses. In his six and a half years at Powers McCartan, he handled nearly every type of criminal case imaginable. From traffic and DWI matters, to Misdemeanor criminal offenses, to serious Felonies, Tim has considerable experience. He has also handled petitions for Expunction for the past four years. In all, Tim has tried over a dozen Jury Trials and hundreds of District Court bench trials. Tim Emry is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated High School at Lincoln Southeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1995. Although he has fully embraced being a citizen of Charlotte, he is very proud of his Nebraska roots. Tim earned his B.A. in Political Science from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1999. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, JMU is still a special place to Tim. During his years as a “Duke” at James Madison, Tim was involved in the Student Government Association. In the 1998-99 academic year, Tim was elected SGA President and served in that capacity as Student Body President during his senior year. He also worked in the Office of Sports Media Relations for all 4 years he spent at JMU. Tim’s love of James Madison athletics remains to this day, as he is a proud Football Season Ticket holder for JMU Football. Tim earned his law degree (J.D.) from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2002. While at William and Mary, Tim served in the Student Bar Association for three years and was the Law School representative in the Student Assembly for his final two years. Tim is very proud to have graduated from the oldest law school in the United States. William and Mary was a law school that gave Tim his start in the noble and ethical practice of law.

Since 2002, Tim has been happy to call Charlotte his home. In his spare time, Tim gives himself to several volunteer opportunities. He has served as a Youth Basketball Coach at Covenant Presbyterian Church since 2003. He also serves on the Board of Directors as the Vice-Chair for the Larry King Clubhouse, a non-profit daycare facility that operates in the Mecklenburg County Courthouse and serves low income families with short term childcare while the parents conduct business in the courthouse. He volunteers as a Marshal on the 6th hole at the Wells Fargo Championship, held every May at Quail Hollow Golf Course. Tim has also served as an assistant coach in both Myers Park/Trinity as well as Dilworth Little League. Tim has worked as an instructor and tutor for students preparing for the LSAT Exam for admission to Law School. Tim comes from a family of teachers and the love of teaching is deeply rooted in his DNA.

Tim is an avid sports fan who enjoys cheering for his favorite teams, including: Nebraska Cornhuskers, James Madison University Dukes, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
